Americans Partner With Marit Peterson Fund For Melanoma Research

ALLEN, Texas - The Allen Americans are designating the March 19 contest against Corpus Christi at 7:30 p.m. Melanoma Awareness Night. The club is partnering with the Marit Peterson Fund for Melanoma Research.
Marit was born July 15, 2004, and diagnosed about two years later with melanoma. She successfully beat the disease and continues to return to M. D. Anderson every six months to monitor her progress. Her parents began the Marit Peterson Fund to honor Marit and support her doctor's research.
The Americans' organization has one of their own that was affected by melanoma. Ice Angel Director BreAnna Foddrill was diagnosed with malignant melanoma in 2001, so the night has extra special meaning. After many surgeries, Foddrill is now nearing three years of being clear of melanoma.
"I believe I went through this for a reason=8Bthat I carry my scars for a reason. My hope is to save lives by bringing awareness to as many people as possible," Foddrill said Monday. "With the Allen Americans, I am able to do so on such a special night by honoring a brave little girl with the same goals. Throw cancer away and black out melanoma."
The Americans are asking fans that are attending the March 19 game to wear black as part of an effort to "black out melanoma." Dallas Star Trevor Daley will be at the game supporting the cause. He will be signing autographs before the game.
The Americans are donating a portion of ticket sales March 19 to the Marit Peterson Fund. Fans can purchase tickets at the regular gate price of $13, $20 or $23, and a portion of each ticket will be donated to the fund.

The Americans, the Dallas Stars' CHL affiliate, began play last fall in the newly built Allen Event Center in The Village at Allen.
