
CHL Announces 2009-10 All-Rookie Team

(Tempe, AZ) - The Central Hockey League (CHL) announced today the six member All-Rookie team for the 2009-10 season, selected through balloting of all 15 CHL head coaches. Receiving recognition on the team are forwards Ryan Garbutt of Corpus Christi, Sean Muncy of Rio Grande Valley and Nick Sirota of Missouri along with defensemen Jake Obermeyer of Amarillo and Sean Erickson of Tulsa and goaltender Danny Battochio of Rapid City.

Ryan Garbutt, Forward (Corpus Christi IceRays):
Ryan Garbutt has led the rookie scoring race for most of the season and currently leads all first-year players with 48 points (22-26=48). The Winnipeg, Manitoba native leads all rookies with 22 goals, four game winning goals, 200 penalty minutes, three shorthanded goals and a +26 plus/minus rating. Garbutt is tied for fifth on the IceRays scoring list and is third in goals. He is the only player to appear on all 15 coach's ballots.
Sean Muncy, Forward (Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees):
Sean Muncy ranks fourth on the Killer Bees in scoring with 45 points (12-33=45) which places him second among all rookies. The Chesterfield, Missouri's 33 helpers lead all first-year players and in January he was named the CHL All-Star Game Most Valuable Player for scoring two goals with two assists in South Texas' 9-4 win over the CHL All-Stars in Laredo, Texas.
Nick Sirota, Forward (Missouri Mavericks):
Nick Sirota is the top scoring rookie in the Northern Conference and ranks third overall among first-year players with 44 points (18-26=44). The Fox Lake, Wisconsin native is second on the Mavericks with his 44 points and is second among rookies with 18 goals.
Jake Obermeyer, Defenseman (Amarillo Gorillas):
Jake Obermeyer is second in scoring among rookie with 24 points (7-17$). The Chanhassen, Minnesota native was second among all Gorillas defensemen with a -4 plus/minus rating and was the top vote-getter among blue liners appearing on eight of the 15 ballots cast.
Sean Erickson, Defenseman (Tulsa Oilers):
Sean Erickson is third among league first-year defensemen with 18 points (5-13=18). The Eden Prairie, Minnesota native helped the Oilers to more wins than in each of the past three seasons keeping them in playoff contention until the final week of the season.
Danny Battochio, Goaltender (Rapid City Rush):
Danny Battochio is second in the CHL with 26 wins and sixth in the league with a 2.66 goals against average and fifth with a.915 save percentage. The Lively, Ontario native was named the Sher-Wood/TPS CHL Goaltender of the Month for January and was once named the Oakley CHL Goaltender of the Week. The 24-year-old rookie was named a CHL All-Star in his first season and had a tremendous stretch of games that saw him post a 23-1-1 record from November 25 to March 5.
The All-CHL Team will be announced on Wednesday, March 17 and the CHL Most Valuable Player recipient will be announced on Monday, March 22.
