Mudbugs Blast RiverKings In Bossier

BOSSIER CITY, LA --- The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs defeated the Mississippi RiverKings 5-1 in Bossier City, Louisiana on Tuesday night, stopping the RiverKings' four-game win streak in the Central Hockey League.

After a scoreless first period, Bossier-Shreveport took a 3-1 lead after two periods of play. Shawn Limpright, Tyrell Lucas, and Jeff Kyrzakos scored goals for Bossier-Shreveport, with the last one coming with one-half second left in the middle session.

Mississippi's only goal came on Ryan Held's 34th goal of the season with 56 seconds remaining. Held attacked the middle of the rink in front of the Bossier-Shreveport net, was able to push the puck between the legs of a defender and then re-directed it into the net at 19:04. Louis Dumont and David Simoes received assists on the goal.

In the third period, Jamie Milam and Limpright scoring his second goal of the game finished off the scoring.

Bossier-Shreveport was 1-for-4 on the power play, while the RiverKings were held scoreless in four power play chances.

Tim Boron took the loss in net for the RiverKings with a 27-save effort, as his record fell to 7-9-2 for the year. John DeCaro was the winning goalie for the Mudbugs with a 24-save performance, as his record improved to 22-13-1.

With the victory, Mississippi fell to 31-24-7 as a four-game winning streak is stopped. Bossier-Shreveport improved to 36-21-4.

Mississippi has clinched a first-round playoff matchup with Missouri next week after the regular season ends. The RiverKings will play home games against the Mavericks Wednesday and possibly Thursday if they finish as the fourth seed, and will host the first game of the best of three at the DeSoto Civic Center on Monday, if the RiverKings are the fifth seed in the playoffs.

Mississippi returns home to wrap up the regular season with two important games in their drive to finish as high as possible going into the playoffs. The RiverKings host the Tulsa Oilers Friday and Saturday nights at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven, both nights starting at 7:05 PM.

The RiverKings will be at Windy City Grille in downtown Hernando on Thursday, March 18 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Players will be on hand to greet fans and sign autographs, so come out and wish the team well as they get wrap up the regular season and get ready for the playoffs.
