
Americans Earn Third Straight Victory, Sweep Weekend against Everett

KENNEWICK, WA - The Americans are on a three game win steak after defeating the Western Conference leading Everett Silvertips 5-2 tonight at the Toyota Center.
After a scoreless first period, Rhett Melnyk scored early into the second frame as he redirected a shot from Carson Haynes past Silvertips netminder Braden Holt. It was Melnyk's eighth goal this season.
Tri-City's lead didn't hold for long as Jackson Berezowski tied the game for Everett just over a minute later.
Jake Sloan put Tri-City in front 1:27 into the third period as he swept in a loose puck in front of the net with a backhand shot. The second-year forward is on a five game point streak with goals in the last four.
Sam Huo scored top-shelf with a shot from the left circle off a cross-ice feed from Rhett Melnyk to extend the lead. Tonight was Melnyk's first game having a goal an an assist.
With 9:00 remaining in the game, Sasha Mutala tipped a shot from Lukas Dragicevic putting the Ams up 4-1. Mutala now has goal six goals and two assists over the last five games. Dragicevic is on his first three game point streak with two goals and four assists over that period.
The Silvertips scored once more before pulling their goaltender with three minutes remaining.
Tyson Greenway scored the empty net dagger to secure a the 5-2 victory.
The Americans outshot the Silvertips 37-36. Nick Avakyan stopped 34 of 36 shots faced and earned his first victory at home.
Tri-City returns to the Toyota Center on Tuesday to take on the Seattle Thunderbirds.
