Winnipeg Ice News Release

Matthew Savoie scored twice in the third period to lead the Winnipeg ICE to a 5-2 win over the Edmonton Oil Kings Saturday night in front of a sold out crowd at the ICE Cave inside Wayne Fleming Arena.

Savoie also assisted on Ben Zloty's second period goal and now leads the WHL with 44 points in 27 games.

Conor Geekie scored the first period goal Winnipeg was looking for on Teddy Bear Toss night, his ninth of the season. Mikey Milne also found the back of the net as the ICE improved their record to 23-3-1.

Josh Williams and Chase Friedt-Mohr were the lone Edmonton goal scorers to beat ICE goaltender Gage Alexander who made 28 of 30 saves.

Kolby Hay stopped 22 of 27 shots for the Oil Kings, who fall to 19-6-2-1.

Winnipeg finishes their seven game homestand with a 4-2-1 record, and embark on a three game road trip starting Tuesday in Prince Albert.
