ALLEN, Texas - The Allen Americans beat the league leading Odessa Jackalopes 5-4 on the road tonight. The victory brings Allen's record to 11-4-1 (23 points).

The first period started with two shorthanded goals. The Americans got off to an early lead with a goal from rookie Tobias Whelan 3:20 into the game, but the Jackalopes returned the favor when Kory Karlander scored at 12:34. Allen regained the one-goal lead when Bruce Graham found the back of the net three minutes later, but Odessa quickly tied the score at two. The teams would end the opening frame in a 2-2 deadlock.

The second period was full of scoring as well. Allen's Mick Berge and Nathan O'Nabigon gave the Americans a 4-2 lead before Odessa's Paul Kelly and Sebastien Thinel tied the score. Justin Bowers put the Americans back up by one with four seconds remaining in the period on the power play. Allen led the Jackalopes 5-4 headed into the third.

Both goalies kept the teams off the board in the final frame, and Allen hung onto the lead to win the game 5-4.

Whitley made 34 saves tonight, and the Americans were 1-5 on the power play. Nino Musitelli assisted on Berge's goal, which brings his point streak to 10 straight games.

Goalie Charlie Effinger is still with the Texas Stars of the AHL after being recalled Nov. 25.

The Americans return for a two-game home stand Saturday and Sunday. Allen hosts cross-town rival Texas tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. and plays Rio Grande Valley Sunday at 6:30 p.m. to end their stretch of seven games in 11 days.
