Americans Defeated in Portland

Tri-City Americans News Release


The Tri-City Americans made their final trip to Portland this evening as they fell 7-1 to the Winterhawks.

Portland started out hot as they put up four goals in the first period. Tri-City trailed 4-0 and was out shot 15-11 through the first period. Portland's scoring stretch continued into the second frame as they put up two more to take a 6-0 lead.

The Americans were able to break through 8:11 into the second period with a goal from Ethan Ernst, his 11th of the season. Sam Huo set up the play with a pass from behind the net to Marc Lajoie who send the puck across the low slot where Ernst tapped it home.

Portland added one final goal before the second period expired to carry a 7-1 lead into intermission.

Nick Avakyan played the first two periods in net for the Americans. The rookie netminder turned aside 20 of 27 shots faced before being relieved in net by Tomas Suchanek for the third period. Suchanek went on to stop all 14 shots in the final frame.

Taylor Gauthier started in net for the Winterhawks. After stopping 19 of 20 shots faced through the first two periods, he was relieved by Dante Giannuzzi for the last 20 minutes.
