Allen Americans News Release

SOUTHAVEN, Mississippi - The Allen Americans overcame a two-goal deficit to beat the Mississippi RiverKings 4-3 in a shootout tonight on the road. The victory advances Allen's record to 23-8-2 (48 points), which is second in the Central Hockey League. The Americans are 1-1-0 in the season series with the RiverKings.

Americans forward Christian Gaudet opened scoring in the game with a shorthanded goal at 4:49 of the first to give Allen a 1-0 lead. The RiverKings struck back with two unanswered goals from Matt Summers and Louis Dumont to put Mississippi up 2-1.

The opening frame also featured fighting entertainment. Immediately following the first ‘Kings goal, Britt Dougherty dropped the gloves with David Simoes, and ten minutes later Brandon Straub tussled with Adam Smyth.

The RiverKings scored a quick goal 1:45 into the second period to increase their lead to two, but Tyler Wooddisse grabbed a tally for the expansion club to bring the Americans within one goal. Allen headed into the second intermission down 3-2.

Justin Bowers tied the game on the power play after fifty seconds of play in the third. Neither team could light the red lamp in regulation or in the extra five-minute overtime period.

Americans goaltender Charlie Effinger and Mississippi netminder Kevin Beech stopped the first two rounds of scoring attempts in the shootout. Allen forward Colton Yellow Horn scored the first goal, followed by tallies from defenseman Ryan Fairbarn and forward Nino Musitelli. RiverKing Derek Landmesser was the only player that slipped one past Effinger.

Goaltender Chris Whitley sat out the game to serve his one-game suspension that the CHL announced prior to the contest. He was suspended for a stick incident that occurred during Friday's matchup with the Texas Brahmas.

Allen plays back-to-back at home after the All-Star game Wednesday. They host Rapid City and Wichita Jan. 15 and 16, respectively. Both games start at 7:30 p.m. at the Allen Event Center.
