Odessa Jackalopes News Release
(Wichita, KS) - In the final hockey game ever played at the Kansas Coliseum, the Odessa Jackalopes pulled out a 3-1 win over the Wichita Thunder with three goals in the third period on Saturday night. Mike Ramsay scored two of the goals as Odessa's record improves to 26-6-3 on the season.
Kenny Bernard also added an empty net goal in the final seconds of the third period. Juha Toivonen stopped 23 of 24 shots to earn his 13th win of the season.
Wichita opened the scoring just 2:05 into the first period when Brent Ottmann scored on a centering feed from the right wing side. The 1-0 lead for the Thunder would hold up through the first two periods before Mike Ramsay and Kenny Bernard took over in the third period.
Ramsay's first goal came at 3:41 of the third frame, when Kenny Bernard forced a turnover in the corner before centering to Ramsay in front who tied the game up at 1-1. Ramsay struck again at 16:08 with a shorthanded tally on another feed from Bernard. On a two-on-one, Ramsay's initial shot was turned away, but the forward picked up a loose puck between the circles and wristed it home to give Odessa the 2-1 lead. Bernard picked up the assist working with Ramsay on the odd-man rush.
Ramsay was also credited with an assist on Bernard's empty netter to give both players three-point nights in the win.
The Jackalopes continue their season-long, eight-game road trip on Friday when the team visits Corpus Christi on Friday at the American Bank Center. Game time is set for 7:05 PM. The Jackalopes return home on January 29th against Arizona.
The Odessa Jackalopes are the Central Hockey League affiliate for the NHL's New York Islanders and the AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers. The team is in the middle of their 13th season in the Permian Basin. Season tickets, mini-plans, and single game tickets are available by calling (432) 552-PUCK or visiting jackalopes.org.
