Three goals in the third fuel Amarillo's comeback

Amarillo, TX - The Amarillo Gorillas added another third period comeback to their resume this season, defeating the Texas Brahmas 4-3 Saturday night.

Texas hopped on the scoreboard first, scoring on their third power-play opportunity. Forward Mark Kolanos banked home a James Hiebert pass from behind the Amarillo net for his sixth goal of the season seven minutes into the period. The Gorillas went 0 for 3 with the man advantage. Texas 1 Amarillo 0 after one period of play.

The Gorillas fought back in the second frame, when forward Joe Guenther snapped his shot from the high slot past Texas goaltender Brett Jaeger for his team-lead 16th goal of the season. The Brahmas answered 1:20 later, as rookie forward AJ Gale notched his twelve goal of the season, giving Texas the 2-1 lead after two periods of play.

Down by one heading into the final frame, the Gorillas flexed their offensive muscles, striking three times in the third. Rookies Andy Brennan and Chris Cloud each scored 3:15 in, giving Amarillo the 3-2 lead. The Brahmas' AJ Gale tied the contest (his second of the game) midway through the period at three with a forehand shot in close quarters. With less than 5 minutes in regulation, forward Stuart MacRae tipped a Jake Obermeyer shot on the power-play, giving Amarillo the 4-3 lead. The Brahmas did not score with the empty net, as Amarillo pulled out their second third period comeback of the season, winning 4-3.

With a goal and an assist, Joe Guenther has collected 5 points over his last 4 games...Now hot at home, Jason Beeman has 3 points over his last 2 home tilts...Stuart MacRae has points in 11 of his last 13 home contests.

It's a new year and the Gorillas are offering $10 tickets for the remainder of the 2010 season! Amarillo takes the ice next weekend (January 15th and 16th) at the Amarillo Civic. The first 1,000 fans to attend Friday's game will receive a rally towel while the first 250 fans through the doors Saturday will be given a Gorillas key chain (second edition).
