
Bucks Lose In Corpus, Line Brawl In Third

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League fell to the Corpus Christi Ice Rays 3-0 Saturday night at the American Bank Center. The Bucks two-game winning streak was snapped as they fall to 15-11-7 (37 points). Laredo enters the All-Star break two points behind Texas for third and one point ahead of Rio Grande Valley for fourth in the Southern Conference.
Kevin Nastiuk picked up his first shutout of the season as he set aside all 20 shots he faced in net. The Ice Rays have won four consecutive games against the Bucks for the first time in team history.
Laredo was outshot in the game 41-20.
Corpus (14-15-5) picked up right where they left off the night before as they took a 2-0 lead in the first period.
Ryan Garbutt put the Ice Rays up 1-0 just 5:09 into the game when he scored on a penalty shot after a Bucks hooking call in front of their net. The goal was Garbutt's 11th of the season. Corpus is two-for-two in penalty shots this season.
The Bucks are winless in their last five road games (0-3-2).
The Ice Rays increased their lead to 2-0 with 5:07 left in the first when Ryan Bennett pulled up on the left side on a two-on-two break and scored on a wrist shot from the top of the circle. The strike was Bennett's fourth of the campaign.
Corpus outshot Laredo in the first period 18-7.
Neither team was able to score in the second period giving the Ice Rays a 2-0 lead after 40 minutes.
The Ice Rays outshot the Bucks 10-9 in the second period.
Kyle Peto made it 3-0 Ice Rays when he scored a four-on-four goal just 1:20 into the third.
The game was marred by a line brawl with 4:14 left in the third period when three separate fights broke out in the neutral zone. A total of 126 penalty minutes were handed out as a result of the brawl with seven players receiving game misconducts and Robin Richards getting two game misconducts.
Pier Pelletier stopped 38 of 41 shots he faced in net to suffer the loss and fall to 0-2-1 with the Bucks.
