Thunder Acquires WHL Star

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Thunder acquired rookie center Jason Reese from the Arizona Sundogs in exchange for right wing Marc Belanger on Saturday morning.

Reese began the season with the Texas Brahmas scoring 10 points in 16 games before getting traded to Arizona on December 2nd. The Gresham, OR native scored one goal and one assist in 10 games for the Sundogs before this morning's trade.

The 21-year old Reese is a true rookie, having spent the previous six years playing Major Juniors in the prestigious WHL. Last season, Reese scored 31 goals and 50 assists in 69 games while finishing +20 for the Tri-City Americans. For his junior career, Reese scored 273 points in 317 games with a remarkable +72 rating. Reese scored 24 or more goals and 70 or more points in each of his final three seasons in the WHL.

Belanger had nine goals and six assists in 31 games for the Thunder this season. Wichita acquired Belanger as a rookie from the Texas Brahmas in January of 2009, during which he scored 20 goals and nine assists in 62 games.

The trade is the third made by the Thunder in the last 10 days. Reese is expected to join the Thunder for their road game at Allen next Saturday. The Thunder play tonight at 7:05 p.m., hosting the Odessa Jackalopes at the Kansas Coliseum. It is the Thunder's final game in the history of the building. A pre-game ceremony unveiling the All-Kansas Coliseum Team will take place with several former Thunder and Wind players on hand.
