Rapid City Rush News Release
(Rapid City, SD) - In the final meeting of the season between Rapid City and Bossier-Shreveport, the Mudbugs came away with a 4-2 victory. The two teams were in yet another close, back-and-forth contest that was up for grabs until the final minute.
Similar to last night's contest, the intensity was high from the drop of the puck as there were two fights in the opening period. Near the midway point of the period, former Mudbug, Kirk Medernach started the scoring with a shot from a severe angle that beat John DeCaro five-hole. Blaine Jarvis assisted on the play, as did Les Reaney who collected his 100th career point with the effort.
Just over six minutes into the second period, Justin Aikins tied the contest on a play assisted by Simon Mangos. The Mudbugs took advantage of a defensive-zone turnover by the Rush and Aikins tucked the puck under the crossbar to make it 1-1.
Rapid City would pick up the first powerplay goal of the game at the 5:25 of the third. Colt King moved the puck to Les Reaney in the slot and the all-star backhanded the puck just under DeCaro to regain the lead. The âBugs would catch a break at the 9:31 mark when David Pszenyczny fired a shot that ricocheted past Miguel Beaudry to tie the game yet again. Then, with a 5-on-3 chance with less than six minutes remaining, Bossier-Shreveport would take their first lead of the game. After some solid puck movement, Joe Blaznek fired a slapshot in for his 300th career goal, making it a 3-2 game. Simon Mangos would add an empty net goal with 10 seconds left to seal the 4-2 win.
Rapid City now heads to Allen on Friday, January 15th for the first ever meeting between the two squads.
