Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
RAPID CITY, SD - Joe Blaznek's 300th professional goal in the third period also proved to be the game-winner as the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs defeated the Rapid City Rush 4-2 Saturday night at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. The victory snapped a three-game winless streak for the Mudbugs, who improved to 18-12-3 this season.
Justin Aikins, Dave Pszenyczny and Simon Mangos scored the other goals for Bossier-Shreveport, who finishes 2-0-1 in their three-game regular season series against Rapid City. John DeCaro turned in a strong effort between the pipes, stopping 41 of 43 shots to earn his tenth win of the season.
The teams picked up where they left off Friday night with two fights in the first period. Mudbugs rookie James DeLory took care of Rapid City's Colt King early in the period and David Rutherford briefly took on Gio Flamminio later. The Rush took a 1-0 lead into the locker room as former Mudbugs defenseman Kirk Medernach scored his first professional goal midway through the period. Rapid City killed off three Mudbug powerplays in the period, including 1:24 of 5-on-3 time.
After killing off the remainder of a Rapid City two-man advantage carrying over from the first period, the âBugs killed another Rush powerplay before tying the game at one. Simon Mangos stole a puck at the Rapid City blueline and chipped it to Justin Aikins, who beat Miguel Beaudry with a quick wrist shot from the high slot to tie it for Bossier-Shreveport at 6:21.
Les Reaney took the lead back for the Rush at 5:25 of the third, beating DeCaro on the powerplay to make it 2-1. Dave Pszenyczny then tied it again midway through the period for the âBugs, skating into the zone and sending a puck on net that changed direction in front and eluded Beaudry before finding the net. Blaznek's game-winner came during a 5-on-3 powerplay at 14:30 as he one-timed a Travis Clayton pass top shelf over Beaudry's glove to put the âBugs on top 3-2. Mangos capped off the win with an empty-netter in the waning seconds as the âBugs completed the 4-2 victory.
Miguel Beaudry made 29 saves in defeat as the Rush outshot the Mudbugs 43-33. Bossier-Shreveport finished 1 for 7 on the powerplay while Rapid City was 1 for 5.
The Mudbugs will now have five days to prepare for a back-to-back set against the first-place Colorado Eagles next weekend at the Budweiser Events Center. The âBugs and Eagles will faceoff next Friday and Saturday night in Loveland, Colorado in a rematch of last year's Northern Conference Semifinal playoff series. Opening faceoff for both games is set for 8:05 pm, and both will be shown live online on CHL TV.
