Arizona Sundogs News Release

PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - Skating in their final game before the 2010 CHL All-Star Game, the Arizona Sundogs extended their season-long win streak to four games, holding on for a 6-5 shootout win over the expansion Missouri Mavericks Saturday night at the Independence Events Center in Independence, Missouri,

In control and leading 5-1 midway through the third period, Arizona saw a four-goal lead disappear on four-straight Missouri goals including a pair of shorthanded markers separated by just 22 seconds.

Kyle Hood tallied the lone shootout goal for his second marker and third point of the game, snapping the game-winner high glove side past Mavericks netminder Alexandre Vincent.

Kyle McNulty stopped all five Missouri skaters in the shootout and earned his fourth-straight win with 33 saves on 38 shots.

Chris Bartolone, Torren Delforte and Joey Sides combined for six points on the night, each tallying a goal and an assist in the win.

Arizona opened a one-goal lead 2:37 into the opening frame as Delforte netted his team-leading 15th goal of the year, burying a rebound off an offensive zone faceoff.

Missouri forward Jeff MacDermid netted his first of two goals on the night to even the score at one just over two minutes into the second period from Simon Watson, skating in 2-on-1 before beating McNulty with a wrist shot from the left circle.

Hood reclaimed a one-goal lead for the Sundogs with an unassisted shorthanded tally at 7:35 of the second, poking the puck off Jeff Christian's stick at the blue line before firing a wrist shot under the arm of Vincent.

Arizona stretched its lead to 5-1 in the third period with three goals in the first six and a half minutes before Missouri forced overtime with four unanswered goals and three tallies in just 1:20.

Sides slammed home a Delforte centering feed from the side of the net 48 seconds into the third frame for his fifth goal in his last four games, moving him into a tie for the league's rookie scoring lead with 21 points.

Striding through the neutral zone, Delforte beat a Missouri player to the puck below the goal line before finding Sides in the slot.

Bartolone was credited with his second goal in as many games at the 3:34 mark, firing a slap shot from the point through traffic and past Vincent for Arizona's first power-play goal of the period.

Konrad Reeder gave Arizona a commanding four-goal advantage three minutes later with the team's second man-advantage marker of the period, lifting a wrist shot into the back of the net from the near circle for his 14th of the year from Bartolone.

Missouri staged a furious comeback and responded with four unanswered goals, eventually forcing overtime and a shootout.

Braden Walls kick-started the comeback bid, trickling a rebound off the back of McNulty and across the goal line at 8:19.

MacDermid collected his second of the game and the first of two Missouri shorthanded goals a minute later, sending a shot past the stick of McNulty after a turnover in the neutral zone.

Christian pulled the Mavericks to within one 22 seconds later, converting on a Nick Sirota rebound.

McNulty made the initial save on Sirota but the puck found its way onto Christian's stick as the two skated in 2-on-1.

Then, with his club on a 5-on-3 power play, Christian tied the game with 3:16 to play in regulation, pushing a loose puck in the crease into the back of the net.

The Sundogs finished 2-for-7 with the man advantage while the Mavericks converted once on nine tries. Arizona outshot Missouri, 42-38, in the contest.

Improving to 2-1 in shootouts this season, Arizona (13-18-3) remains just seven points back of the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees and the Southern Conference's fifth and final playoff spot and eight points back of fourth-place Laredo.

The Sundogs continue their five-game road trip Friday, Jan. 15 at 6:05pm (Arizona time) against the Amarillo Gorillas. Listen live on KDDL ‘Cattle Country' 94.3FM, the Official Radio Home of Arizona Sundogs Hockey, and online at www.cattlecountryradio.com.
