Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

AMARILLO, Texas -- After a thoroughly dominant outing from Kevin McGovern, the Saltdogs (4-4) surrendered a five-run lead as the Amarillo Thunderheads (4-4) scored six times in the final two innings to beat Lincoln 7-6 in walk-off fashion at Thunderheads Stadium Friday night.

Trailing 6-3 heading into the ninth, Amarillo took advantage of four walks to score four times on just two hits to complete the improbable comeback.

Juan Martinez stroked the game-winner in the bottom of the ninth, a two-run single to left and his fourth hit of the night.

McGovern spun seven sparkling innings, allowing one run on six hits while walking two and striking out seven. The 26-year old southpaw finished his night by striking out two straight hitters in the seventh and not giving up a run after yielding consecutive hits to begin the frame with runners on the corners.

Colin Allen (1-0) pitched a hitless inning of relief to grab the win. Kaohi Downing (0-3) allowed a run on one hit in 1/3-plus inning to take the loss. Conor Spink allowed three runs on one hit and two walks in the ninth for the blown save.

Ryan Wiggins went 3-for-4 with two RBI to pace the 'Dogs offensively. Mike Gilmartin went 2-for-4 with a walk, RBI and two runs scored.

The clubs play game two of the three-game series Saturday night at 6:05 p.m. RHP Zachary Varce (0-0, 8.31) is slated to pitch against RHP Matt Larkins (2-0, 0.00). Radio coverage begins at 5:35 p.m. on KFOR 1240.
