Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release
Linco ln, NE - The Gary South Shore RailCats and the Lincoln Saltdogs went down to the final play of the game to decide the series final on Thursday night at Haymarket Park. With two outs and the RailCats holding on to a 3-2 lead, Lincoln's Jeremy Hamilton doubled off of Andy Loomis. Mike Gilmartin followed with a soft liner base hit to left field. RailCats left fielder Roger Bernal charged the ball and fielded it cleanly throwing home on one bounce to Gary catcher Michael Vaughn, who made a great tag to get Hamilton at the plate for out number three to preserving a 3-2 Gary win. The win split the four game series between the two clubs.
Lincoln took the lead in the first on a triple from Matt Forgatch off of RailCats starter Travis McGee. Forgatch came home when the next batter Eddie Young reached on an infield single to make it 1-0 Lincoln. Young stole second then went to third on a wild pitch and came home on a sac fly from CJ Ziegler and the Dogs had a 2-0 lead.
The RailCats picked up a run in the second when JD Pulfer doubled and Roger Bernal singled to put runners at the corners off of Lincoln lefty Moises Michael Schroeder hit a ground ball to second that brought home Pulfer for a fielder's choice RBI and his first professional RBI.
The RailCats tied it in the 8th inning when Ryan Brockett worked a lead off walk off of McKenzie King who had retired the first six he had faced. Lincoln brought in a lefty Jared Gaynor to face Zac Mitchell who singled to left. Drew Martinez followed with another single to left to put the Cats in business. With the bases loaded JD Pulfer tied the game with a sac fly to left.
In the top of the ninth Crown Point native Michael Schroeder led off with his first pro hit a double off of Kaohi Dowing down the right field line. The next batter Michael Vaughn attempted to move Schroeder to third on a sac bunt that Dowing fielded and elected to throw to third to get Schroeder but the Lincoln reliever over threw third base and the RailCats Schroeder raced home to give the South Shore a 3-2 lead. That set up the bottom of the ninth heroics for Bernal and Vaughn on defense.
Jessie Snodgrass (2-0) was the winner while Dowing (0-2) was charged with the loss and Loomis notched his second save. The club returns home on Friday to face the Kansas City T-Bones at 7:10pm at US Steel Yard.
