Canaries Fall to Fargo 8-3 on Friday Night

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Sioux Falls Canaries (4-4) opened up their first divisional series of the season on Friday night against the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks (1-7), with reigning American Association Pitcher of the Week, Miguel Pena (1-1, 2.70 ERA) taking the mound for his second start of the season. Pena and the Birds battled, but ultimately fell to the RedHawks by the final score of 8-3.

The southpaw allowed five runs on hits in his 6 1/3 innings of work, but was knocked out of the game in the top of the 7th after allowing Fargo's leadoff man, Chad Mozingo and former Canaries outfielder, Drew Muren to score, making it 5-2.

Canaries' rookie utility man, Vickash Ramjit paced the Canaries offense going 3-for-4 at the plate, with two doubles and a single. Ramjit watched his batting average jump from .250 to .333 after his solid night at the plate.

Jerome Pena also had a good night at the plate for Sioux Falls, going 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored in the loss.

Fargo starting pitcher, Austin Kirk (1-1, 2.31 ERA) picked up his first win of the season after holding the Birds to just three runs on nine hits over six innings.

The series continues on Saturday night with Canaries RHP Shawn Blackwell (1-0, 0.00 ERA) toeing the rubber for the Birds'against Fargo's RHP Bryan Blough (0-1, 12.46 ERA).
