SIOUX FALLS, SD- The Sioux Falls Canaries announced on Friday afternoon that the team has signed LHP Mike Watt to a contract.

The 26-year-old southpaw was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the second round of the 2007 MLB Draft out of Capistrano Valley High School in Mission Viejo, CA.

Watt posted a 9-4 record in 25 appearances for the Dodgers rookie ball affiliate before being traded to the San Diego Padres in late August of 2008 as the "player to be named later" in exchange for future MLB Hall of Famer, Greg Maddux.

The 6'1" leftie bounced back-and-forth between class-A ball and AAA in the Padres farm system from 2009-2012, posting a 19-20 record in 73 starts. Watt's best season came in 2009, after posting a 7-4 record and 4.35 ERA in 32 appearances for the Padres Class-A affiliate in Fort Wayne of the Mid-West league and AAA affiliate in Portland of the Pacific Coast League.

Watt has not pitched professionally since 2012, after suffering an early season arm injury while pitching for the Eugene Emeralds in the Northwest League.

The Canaries continue their week-long homestand on Friday Night as they open up a four-game series against their North Division rivals, the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. Get your tickets to any of the Canaries 50 home games this season by contacting the Canaries Ticket Office at (605) 336-6060 or visit www.sfcanaries.com. No matter your schedule, the Canaries have a ticket package for you. Ask a Canaries representative about the weekender, perch packs or E-Z Game Tickets.
