Amarillo Gorillas News Release
Amarillo, TX - The Amarillo Gorillas are still in search of that elusive first win, falling to the Laredo Bucks by a final score of 9-3 on Saturday night. They now move to 0-4-1 on the season, and will head to Arizona to take on the Sundogs on Wednesday night. It will be the first divisional opponent for the Gorillas this season.
In the first period, Laredo forward Jeff Bes started the scoring at the 6:17 mark, and added another at 11:52. Amarillo was out-shot badly in the period 15-4 but escaped only down 2-1 when David Nimmo got his fourth goal of the year at the 17:24 mark. Nimmo's goal came on a 5-on-3 advantage.
Laredo continued to pour it on in the second period, getting two goals from James Hiebert sandwiched in between a goal from Cory Courchene. After two, the Gorillas trailed 5-1. They were outshot in the period 11-7.
Although the Gorillas finally came alive in the third period, it was a little bit too late, as Jason Chafe was able to score twice on the power-play getting his first two goals of the season. His tallies came at the 7:00 and 12:09 mark. However, Laredo was able to score three goals in the period, two from Jeff Bes and a shorthanded goal from Chris Korchinski. Bes ended the game with four goals and two assists.
Amarillo will travel to Arizona for a contest Wednesday night against the Sundogs, before heading home for two games next weekend on Friday night against the New Mexico Scorpions and Saturday night against the defending champion Colorado Eagles.
