New Mexico Scorpions News Release

[ODESSA, Tex.] - The Scorpions fell Saturday night 4-2 in Odessa in a hard fought contest. The division rivals will finish their home-and-home set Tuesday night in New Mexico.

With the game tied after two periods the final stanza proved to be entertaining for the fans. At the 12:26 mark, Sylvain Dufrense picked up the rebound and found the net for what proved to be the game winning goal. Dominic Leveille added a late empty net, insurance goal.

New Mexico got on the board first with Craig Macdonald's second goal of the season. Macdonald cruised into the Odessa zone and launched a shot from the circle, just under the cross bar giving his team the 1-0 lead.

Odessa came back to eventually take the lead late in the first period with special teams play. Alex Dunn's rebound, power play goal tied the game up at the 16:40 mark. Less than two minutes later, the Jackalopes picked up a shorthanded goal as Dan Leveille put the puck into an open net.

Penalties were high and goals were low in the second period. The teams combined for 55 penalty minutes and only one goal, but it was the Scorpions that lit the lamp. Ross McCain found a streaking Tom Kotsopoulos with a prefect pass. Kostopoulos finished the job with his second goal of the season very late in the middle frame.

The Scorpions return home for a Halloween celebration on Tuesday, October 30 at 7:15 p.m. Kids wearing a costume to the game get in free with a paying adult. There will be special Halloween activities throughout the night.
