October 27, 2007 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Youngstown SteelHounds News Release

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS - The Youngstown SteelHounds needed a shootout but were able to stay undefeated with a 3-2 win over the Corpus Christi Rayz. A scoreless first period meant nothing as Youngstown jumped out to a quick second period lead thanks to Kevin Jarman's first career goal at 6:20. That was the lone power play goal as the Hounds were 1-14 on the man advantage. Jarman was not the only SteelHound to net his first career as goal as Gord Burnett followed suit at 8:13 to make it 2-0 Youngstown after two periods.

The third period belonged to the Rayz as Jon Jankus scored a power play goal from Joe Blaznek at 6:04 to cut the deficit to one. Geno Parrish tied the game with his own power play goal at 11:57 to force overtime and the eventual shootout. The Jankus was the first power play goal of the season for the Rayz who were playing their fourth game.

After five rounds of the shootout the score was tied at two and forced sudden victory. In the seventh round Petr Pohl was able to put a shot past Jason Tapp to give the Hounds the victory. Both Jason Tapp of the Rayz and Youngstown's Andy Franck were outstanding making 34 saves a piece.

The Rayz drop to 1-2-1 (3 points) and will host the Laredo Bucks tomorrow afternoon. The Hounds improve to 3-0-0 (6 points) and will take on the Texas Brahmas on Sunday at 4:05 with first place in the Northeast Division up for grabs. All Hounds games are available on ESPN Radio 1240 and SteelHounds.com.
