
Bes Scores Four As Bucks Win Fifth Straight: Equal Best Start Ever

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League beat the Amarillo Gorillas 9-3 Saturday night in front of 6,103 fans at the Laredo Entertainment Center. The Bucks improve to 5-0 for only the second time in team history, and that equals the best start ever by the franchise. Laredo started 5-0 during the 2003-04 season, before losing to Corpus Christi in the sixth game of the campaign. Jeff Bes scored four goals and handed out two assists, while James Hiebert picked up two goals to lead Laredo.
Jeff Bes put the Bucks on top with a power-play goal at the 6:17 mark, David Walker and Serge Dube picked p the assists. Bes gave the Bucks a 2-0 lead at the 11:52 mark, as he finished off a give-and-go with James Hiebert, Steve Simoes also picked up an assist on the goal. Amarillo cut the Bucks lead in half at the 17:24 mark of the period, when David Nimmo snuck a power-play goal past Laredo goaltender Kevin Beech. The Bucks outshots the Gorillas 15-4 in the first period.
The Bucks made it 3-1 just 50 seconds into the second period when James Hiebert knocked in a power-play goal off of a rebound. Bes and Adam Rivet picked up assists. Laredo made it 4-1 at the 6:15 mark as rookie Corey Courchene picked up his first professional goal. Matt Summers and Chris Korchinski handed out the assists. Hiebert made it 5-1 Bucks at the 15:34 mark off of a nice pass from Bes. Dube picked up another assist on the play. The Bucks outshot the Gorillas in the second period 11-7.
Laredo scored four goals in the third period for the second straight night, as Rane Carnegie made it 6-1 just 41 seconds into the frame. The goal was then changed to Hiebert and switched back to Carnegie after the game. Laredo made it 7-1 as Bes scored at 1:04, giving him a hat trick. Bes then scored his fourth goal of the night on the power-play at 4:17 making it 8-1. After a Jason Chafe goal, Chris Korchinski scored short-handed to make it 9-2 at the 10:45 mark of the third. Chafe would score one more for the Gorillas at 12:09 making it 9-3.
Kevin Beech improved to 2-0 in the Bucks net as he set aside 21 shots, while Dan McWhinney had a rough night in the Gorillas (0-4-1) net, allowing nine goals and stopping 22 shots. Laredo has a quick turnaround as they travel to Corpus Christi Sunday afternoon for a 3:05pm start time. With a win the Bucks will improve to 6-0, the surpass best start in team history.
