Corpus Christi and Youngstown played a scoreless opening frame. The Rayz outshot the Hounds 11-9 in the first.

In the second period, tempers flared as the clubs combined for six fights and 47 penalty minutes. At the center of it was Jason Baird who was given a five minute major for fighting and a game misconduct for tussling with Hounds defensemen Gord Burnett who received only a two minute penalty. While the Rayz were killing the five-minute penalty, the Hounds broke the scoreless tie when rookie Kevin Jarman scored his first pro goal from the slot at 6:20 of the period. Youngstown made it 2-0 shortly after that when Burnett scored right off a face-off at 8:13. The Hounds took their two goal lead into the third period and outshot the Rayz 16-8 in the period.

In the third period, Corpus Christi's power play erupted for the first time this season and paved the way for the Rayz comeback. Jon Jankus scored his first with the Rayz at 6:04 of the frame after Joe Blaznek dropped off a centering feed from behind the net to the Rayz rookie. The Rayz then tied the game on a power play at 11:57 when Geno Parrish blasted a slapshot from the high slot through a screen and past Hounds netminder, Andy Franck. In a shootout, the Hounds scored three times on seven shots with Chris Richards, Eric Przepiorka and Petr Pohl getting the game winner. Meanwhile the Rayz scored twice on seven shots with Blaznek and Parrish successfully converting their opportunities.

Jason Tapp and Franck both made 34 saves on 36 shots through regulation and overtime. Tapp took the OT loss, moving to 1-2-1 on the year, while Franck upped his record to 3-0 - mirroring the Hounds 3-0 season mark. The Hounds outshot the Rayz 37-36. The Rayz were 2-7 on the power play and the Bucks were 1-7.
