Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

BOSSIER CITY, LA - The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs lost their third consecutive game to start the season Friday night, a 2-1 defeat to Mississippi . Steve Makway scored the game-winning goal for the RiverKings only 58 seconds after they had tied the game at one.

The Mudbugs dominated the first period of play, outshooting Mississippi 15-6 and generating numerous quality scoring chances on RiverKings goaltender Sebastien Centomo. But Bossier-Shreveport couldn't get anything past Centomo, who was signed just this week by Mississippi , and the game was scoreless after one.

The RiverKings turned the momentum around in the second period, but the scoreless hockey continued for most of the frame. Although Mississippi outshot Bossier-Shreveport 11-3 in the second, it was the Mudbugs who would get the only goal of the period. While the 'Bugs were shorthanded late in the period, Justin Aikins fed a streaking Brett Smith into the offensive zone on a shorthanded breakaway. Smith put the puck past Centomo for a 1-0 Mudbugs lead with 3:03 to go. Derek Miller had the other assist. Then with less than 15 seconds remaining in the period, Bossier-Shreveport nearly led 2-0, as Aikins stole a puck in the neutral zone and rang a shot off the post to Centomo's glove side.

The pace of the game slowed down early in the third period with the Mudbugs trying to nurse the one-goal lead at home. Mississippi would get the right bounces at the right times however, as Louis Dumont fed a pass out front for Ryan Held, who scored to even the game at one. Makway's goal followed only 58 seconds later on a slap shot from the point with traffic in front of 'Bugs goaltender John DeCaro.

The Mudbugs were 0-for-6 on the power play, while the 'Kings finished 0-for-7. Mississippi is now 2-1-0 on the season and will be off until Tuesday, when they face Tulsa at home.

Bossier-Shreveport falls to 0-3 on the young season and will make the short road trip to Texas on Saturday for a road game with the Brahmas. Saturday night's game will be the home opener for Texas and their first ever contest at the NYTex Sports Center in North Richland Hill, Texas .
