Amarillo Gorillas News Release

Amarillo, TX 3/21/08 - The Amarillo Gorillas had a disappointing end to their 2007-08 home season, getting beat by the final score of 6-1 in front of their home crowd on Friday night against the New Mexico Scorpions. It was Amarillo's final home game of the season, and second to last game overall. The Gorillas organization had a number of giveaways on ‘Fan Appreciation Night in the Jungle,' including $5,000 in flooring from Rick Lovelady Carpets, and an all expense paid trip to Las Vegas courtesy of Budweiser. Amarillo suffered their 31st loss of the season, but will have a chance at revenge tomorrow night when they visit New Mexico to take on the Scorpions again, their 13th and final meeting of the year.

The first period saw the Gorillas take an early 1-0 lead as David Nimmo scored his team leading 41st goal of the year at 4:51, getting help from Austin Sutter and Bill Vandermeer. Nimmo was recognized before the game for his Rookie of the Year award, as the league presented him with a trophy and the Gorillas unveiled a banner that will hang in the rafters as a permanent reminder of his accomplishments. New Mexico would tie the game up at one apiece getting a power-play goal from their leading scorer Konrad Reeder at 17:16. Reeder came into the game as the third leading scorer in the CHL, and was set up by Aaron MacInnis and Craig Macdonald to send the game into the first intermission all square at one.

In period two, the Scorpions would get the only goal scoring at 7:26 when Christopher Robertson converted on the power-play to put New Mexico on top for good.

The third period was all Scorpions, as they would add four more goals, including two more from Reeder to give him a hat trick on the night, and 40 goals on the season. Ross McCain would score the other two third period goals, as the Scorpions got just their second win over Amarillo in their past eight meetings.

Amarillo will be in New Mexico tomorrow night, with face off set for 8:05 PM CST. It is the Gorillas final game of the 2007-08 season.
