Vladimir Hartinger Named CHL's Most Outstanding Defenseman
March 21, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release
The Central Hockey League (CHL) announced today that Vladimir Hartinger of the New Mexico Scorpions has been named the recipient of the 2007-08 Central Hockey League's Most Outstanding Defenseman award. The honor is âpresented annually to the Central Hockey League defenseman who has demonstrated the greatest all-round ability in the position' and is determined through balloting of CHL head coaches, communications departments and selected media members in each market. Colorado's Aaron Schneekloth finished second in the voting.
The Sternberk, Czech Republic native and current Rio Rancho, New Mexico resident leads all defensemen with 61 points and 41 assists. His 20 goals are second in the CHL among rearguards trailing only Schneekloth. Hartinger has been the quarterback and catalyst of the solid Scorpions power play helping on 26 of the Scorpions 74 man advantage goals and scoring 10 times on the power play. He also carries a +17 plus/minus rating (ranking third on the Scorpions).
The seventh-year pro has set career highs this season in points, goals, assists and penalty minutes. He has spent time in the CHL with Wichita, Fort Worth and had a previous stint with New Mexico. The 6-0, 200-pound defenseman was a member of the 2008 CHL Southern Conference All-Star team where he scored a goal and was a +2 in the South's 11-6 victory in Broomfield, Colorado. On February 25th, Hartinger was named the Oakley CHL Player of the Week after a seven-day stretch that saw him score five goals with five assists in three games.
The recipient of the CHL's Most Outstanding Goaltender award will be announced later today, with the CHL Most Valuable Player award selection announced Monday, March 24th, in conjunction with the winner of the Joe Burton Scoring Champion award. Already announced earlier this week were the recipients of CHL Athletic Trainer of the Year (Oklahoma City's Wade Sundbye), CHL Gunner Garrett Equipment Manager of the Year (Rocky Mountain's Patrick Stevens), CHL Coach of the Year (Bossier-Shreveport's Scott Muscutt), Rick Kozuback Award (Colorado's Chris Stewart) and CHL Man of the Year (Oklahoma City's Stacey Bauman) honors, along with both the 2007-2008 All-CHL and All-Rookie teams.
