Mississippi RiverKings News Release
Southaven, MS -- Sunday, March 16 the RiverKings defeated the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs in dramatic fashion. The RiverKings came back from a two goal deficit at the beginning of the third period to take the Mudbugs into a shootout, and ultimately win in the seventh round. Luck was on the RiverKings side Sunday, as they wore their special theme night St Patrick's Day jerseys sponsored by Miller Lite.
These green specialty jerseys featured clovers, Celtic style names, Miller Lite's logo, and the traditional RiverKings logo with a little twist.
"Sheldon is shown sporting a red beard, leprechaun hat and holding up his mug of beer," Michael Rice, RiverKings Representative said.
Fans really seemed to like these specialty jerseys, raising nearly $10,000 for two local charities - Palmer Home for Children and Hernando Youth Sports.
"The RiverKings are pleased to be sponsored by Great River Beverage and Miller Lite," said Dave Mattice, Director of Business Operations for the RiverKings. "The people at Great River Beverage show a commitment to this community and were eager to have their sponsored jerseys auctioned off to benefit the Palmer Home for Children."
Palmer Home for Children is a ministry to children who are growing up as social orphans without the nurture and support of a loving family, who need a place to be and to become. Palmer Home for Children has provided a stable, Christ-centered life built on loving one-to-one relationships for more than 100 years.
A few years ago that vision extended to a campus in Hernando, Mississippi. Currently two cottages on this campus house almost 20 boys and girls. Palmer Home for Children plans for this facility to grow to over 100 children in 12 cottages.
"We appreciate the Beene's (Steve and Lisa, owners of Great River Beverage) support of the RiverKings and their desire to fill an obvious need to support the abused and neglected children cared for by the Palmer Home," Mattice said.
