Laredo still has an awful lot to play for this weekend. The Bucks come into tonight needing just one point to clinch the number one seed in the Southern Conference Playoffs. If Laredo wins tonight or the Sundogs lose the Bucks will clinch the South and have home ice throughout the Southern Conference Playoffs.
Laredo is coming off of a trip to Youngstown last weekend where they lost two of three games to the Steelhounds. Last Sunday Laredo jumped out to a 3-0 lead against Youngstown, before hanging on for a 3-1 win. Three different Bucks tallied goals, with Derek Legault, Chris Stanley, and Alex Goupil scoring for Laredo.
The Bucks seem to be peaking at the right time having won seven of their last 10 games, including coming out on top in their last three home games.
Jeff Bes looks to complete a stellar regular season for the Bucks. The MVP finalist is second in the league in scoring with 102 points (44-58=102). The next goal that Bes scores in the regular season will tie him with former linemate Chris Grenville for most goals in a season by a Buck with 45.
The Killer Bees come into the game with nothing left to play for except trying to play spoiler for the Bucks. Rio is dead last in the CHL in wins, points, goals against, and winning percentage, and will finish with the least amount of wins in team history.
Rio is lead in scoring by All-Star Travis Banga (23-37=60), and Rob Voltera (26-30=56).
Laredo owns a 10-1 record against Rio this season, including 5-0 at the LEC. The Bucks have outscored the Bees in Laredo by a combined 24-6 score.
After tonight the Bucks will close out the regular season Saturday at the Dodge Arena in Hidalgo.
