Altoona Curve News Release
ALTOONA - The Altoona Mountain Lions scored six runs in the top of the seventh inning to defeat the Hollidaysburg Tigers 9-4, and win the 2006 Dean Patterson Curve Classic at Blair County Ballpark on Sunday. Altoona also won the DPCC title in 2003, making this their second championship since the tournament began four years ago.
John Snyder finished the championship game 2-4, driving in the game-winning run and scoring once and was named the 2006 Dean Patterson Curve Classic MVP. Snyder was a blistering 10-12 during the four-day tournament and drove in six runs.
The Mountain Lions fell behind for the first time in the fifth inning when Hollidaysburg scored twice for a one-run lead and was just three outs away from defending its DPCC championship.
However, Altoona exploded for six runs in its final at-bat and built a five run advantage. Corey Henderson led off the seventh inning with a walk and later scored on an error by Hollidaysburg shortstop Patrick Smith. The Mountain Lions took the lead for good when Snyder crushed a ground-rule double to left field to score Blake Bauer.
Matt Gehret threw a complete game for Altoona, allowing four runs on eight hits and striking out two.
Patrick Smith was 2-3 for the Tigers with two runs scored and an RBI and even got the final two outs against Altoona when he was brought on in relief in the seventh inning.
