AKRON - Akron starter Bear Bay and two relievers combined on a four-hitter as the Aeros handed the Curve their second consecutive loss, 3-1, Sunday afternoon at Canal Park in Akron, OH.

Altoona (15-8) has now lost back-to-back games for the first time this season, having dropped an 8-6 decision to Akron on Saturday afternoon. Despite the consecutive losses, the Curve finish the month of April in first place in the Eastern League's Southern Division and turned in the best opening month in franchise history. The Curve have either been tied for or in possession of the top spot in the E.L. South for 24 of 25 days to open the season. Starter Matt Peterson (2-2) surrendered three early runs to the Akron offense to suffer his second consecutive loss. The Aeros grabbed a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on an RBI double by Kevin Kouzmanoff and a run-scoring single by Jon Van Every. Akron extended the lead to 3-0 the following inning on a solo home run off the bat of Joe Inglett.

In six innings of work, Peterson allowed three runs on seven hits, walking one and fanning four, to suffer the loss.

Meanwhile, Bay (2-3) held the Curve to three hits in five innings to earn the win for Akron. Altoona scored its lone run of the contest in the top of the fifth on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Octavio Martinez.

Relievers Juan Lara and Tom Mastny kept the Curve off the board over the final four frames to preserve Akron's fifth win in six games. Mastny worked the final three innings to earn his first save.

No player had more than one hit in the contest for the Curve, who dropped their second consecutive series after opening the season by winning their first five sets.

Altoona will continue its seven-game road swing Monday night in the first of a four-game set against the Erie SeaWolves (AA/Detroit Tigers) at Jerry Uht Park in Erie, PA. Game time Monday night is set for 6:35 PM and the Curve will send lefty Josh Shortslef (3-0, 2.05) to the mound against Erie right-hander Preston Larrison (1-1, 3.74).
