The Latest
First-round pick Mike Pelfrey was impressive in his Binghamton Mets debut, but the offense wasn't able to muster any run support for him, allowing the Erie SeaWolves to eke out a 1-0 victory at Jerry Uht Park Saturday...Erie starter Humberto Sanchez beat the B-Mets for the second time in less than a week, striking out 13 over seven scoreless innings...Pelfrey scattered three hits and two walks, striking out eight, over 5 2/3 shutout innings in his fifth professional start...Erie scored the game's only run off Ryan Cullen in the seventh when Kody Kirkland came home on a Kelly Hunt sacrifice fly...the B-Mets, who got two-hit games from Carlos Gomez and Wilson Batista, had runners on with less than two out in four different innings, including loading the bases with no out in the first...Binghamton, losers of five of their last six, were shut out for the third time in four games.

Binghamton's only two wins in their last seven games were over Erie. Both came on Fridays and Evan MacLane got the victory in both...the B-Mets have been shut out in 34 of their last 36 innings, spanning four games. B-Mets manager Juan Samuel, struck in the face by a foul ball off the bat of Akron's Pat Osborn last Monday, will undergo surgery to repair his nose and cheekbone tomorrow in New York. Kevin Morgan, the NY Mets' Coordinator of Field Instruction and a former B-Mets infielder ('95-'97) is serving as the interim manager. He is wearing number four...the B-Mets hit .282 in the first eight games, seven of which they won, but just .202 in the 14 games since, 10 of which they've lost.

Another run scored on the play thanks to a throwing error by CF Carlos Gomez...retired 13 of the final 14 to face him after Donovan's hit, including the last 10 in a row...left with a 2-2 tie...got a no-decision for the first time this season...walked Brad Snyder in the first, the first BB William's allowed this season.

Last name pronounced coy-YAZ-zo...Born in Carolina, PR, but now a resident of Miami, FL...pitched in the Angels organization in 2005...didn't get into a game until 4/26, as he began season by serving a 15-game suspension for violating Minor League Baseball's steroids policy...started year with AAA Salt Lake (0-1 7.71 11 G, 1 GS)...sent down to AA Arkansas in early June, where he posted 1-5, 6.78 marks in 26 games, including 10 starts...pitched for Puerto Rico in last month's World Baseball Classic...spent all of 2004 with Arkansas (6-10, 4.56, 32 G, 20 GS), leading the Texas League with 3 CG...selected by Angels from Atlanta in the minor league portion of the 12/2003 Rule 5 draft...got into 122 games in three seasons in the Braves chain, but didn't make a single start nor did he post an ERA higher than 3.47, getting as high as AA Greenville in 2002 and 2003...10th-round pick of the Braves in the 2001 draft out of Florida International University ...pitched for Kirkwood (IA) Community College in 1998 and 1999.
