Trenton Thunder News Release
(Trenton, NJ)- Kevin Howard's RBI single in the 10th Inning capped a late Trenton rally in a 3-2 win over New Britain on Sunday afternoon. The win was the fourth straight for the Thunder and their sixth in the last seven games.
New Britain (7-13) jumped out to a 2-0 lead with single runs in the 5th and 6th Innings, including a solo homer by Thunder alum Steve Lomasney off Trenton starter Jorge DePaula. The Thunder (7-14), meanwhile, were being blanked by Rock Cats starter Adam Harben. He tossed 6 1/3 innings of shutout baseball before leaving in the 7th Inning.
Trenton tied the game with two unearned runs off reliever Bobby Korecky in the 8th Inning. CF Justin Christian doubled to start the inning and he scored on an error by New Britain 3B Matt Moses. Howard later followed with a two-out RBI double to score pinch-runner Gabe Lopez to tie the game at 2-2.
In the 10th Inning, Trenton had Christian and RF Bronson Sardinha walk to start the inning against reliever Tristan Crawford. Aftre a sacrifice bunt and an intentional walk to 1B Shelley Duncan, Howard lined a single to right field to score the game-winner. Crawford (2-1) walked three batters in 1/3 inning for the loss.
Trenton's Charlie Manning (3-0) pitched a scoreless 10th Inning for the win.
The Thunder will welcome Reading to Trenton for a four-game series beginning on Monday. Game time is 7:05 PM. Danny Borrell (1-2, 4.50) will start for the Thunder against Reading's Daniel Haigwood (1-1, 2.61).
