Allison's Hat Trick Propels Storm Past Musketeers, 3-2 in OT
December 18, 2015 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Tri-City Storm News Release
Sioux City, Ia. - Wade Allison bombed a slap shot past Cam Gornet 29 seconds into overtime, completing his first USHL hat trick and catapulting the Storm to a 3-2 overtime win against the Sioux City Musketeers Friday from the Tyson Events Center.
After intercepting a clearing attempt, Allison drove to the right circle, found space, and unleashed a rip that went bar down, giving the Storm points in five straight games, a season high.
Allison's hat trick helped the Storm move over .500 (10-9-3-3, 26 points), good for sole possession of the fourth and final playoff spot in the Western Division.
The Storm's Jake Kielly made 29 saves for his team-leading sixth win of the season.
Despite Allison's scoring outburst, the 18-year-old watched Sioux City score first after Eeli Tolvanen tallied shorthanded at 5:18 of the first.
Just 2:11 later, forward Dan Labosky sprung a two-on-one from the left side and dished to Allison. After Allison's initial shot was saved, the 18-year-old forward banged the biscuit under Cam Gornet, who made 31 saves in defeat.
Allison has seven goals in his last six games, pushing to nine goals and 12 points this season. Labosky has ten points, including seven assists.
The game stayed even at one until early in the third, when the Western Michigan commit Allison continued his work, driving net front and stuffing the puck under Gornet for his second goal at 2:21 of the third. Joey Matthews earned the assist, skyhooking the puck over the defense to an open Allison.
Alex Steeves tied the game off a left-post shot to even the game at two with eleven minutes left in the game.
Tri-City earned at least a point for the fifth straight game, a season high. The Storm has generated points in seven of its last eight, with all games decided by one goal.
Part of the Storm's success came from a disciplined special teams effort, allowing two power plays to Sioux City's top-ranked man up. Tri-City successfully killed both chances.
Tri-City challenges the Omaha Lancers at 7:05 p.m Saturday, Dec. 19. Check out the game at 6:45 p.m. with David Fine on The Breeze 94.5 FM.
Tri-City's next home game is January 3, 2016 against the Des Moines Buccaneers at 5:05 p.m. on Princess Night, featuring Frozen characters making their way to the Viaero Center.
