Omaha Lancers News Release
Ralston, NE - The Omaha Lancers, members of the United States Hockey League, announced that forward Brian Williams has committed to play Division-I ice hockey for the University of Massachusetts-Amherst Minutemen.
"It feels amazing to commit; a dream come true," said Williams, a native of San Diego, CA. "I chose the University of Massachusetts-Amherst because it's amazing both athletically and academically with a great atmosphere."
In his third season with the Lancers, Williams was named alternate captain and has amassed 51 points. Williams' 140 games in Omaha is just 60 games shy of tying the all-time record of 200, currently held by Chris Hepp.
"Omaha has been so supportive in helping me get to where I am today," Williams added. "From the coaching staff, to my teammates, athletic trainer, and everyone working in the front office. They've made it easy to want to come to the rink every day with a smile on my face and motivation to get better."
Prior to joining the Lancers during the 2013-2014 season, Williams spent one season with the Wenatchee Wild of the North American Hockey League where he tallied five goals and 14 assists in 39 games. During the playoffs, Williams notched two goals in ten games.
"The Omaha Lancers want to congratulate Brian on his commitment to the University of Massachusetts-Amherst," said Head Coach Brian Kaufman. "Since coming to Omaha, Brian has been one of the hardest workers and a fan-favorite. That makes the Minutemen a great fit for his collegiate career."
This season, the Minutemen have a 6-8-4 overall record and are 2-4-4 in Hockey East where they sit in seventh place.
"Nothing would have been possible without everyone's help in Omaha," Williams finished. "I'm very thankful for that."
The three-game road swing for the Omaha Lancers ends tonight in Des Moines at 7:05 p.m. The Lancers return home at Ralston Arena tomorrow, December 19th against the Tri-City Storm at 7:05 p.m. Come meet Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus, and Elves.
