Reno Aces News Release
RENO, Nev.-Reno rallied back from an early six-run deficit with seven unanswered runs Tuesday night-capped by a three-run home run off the bat of Brandon Allen-as the Aces topped the Tacoma Rainiers, 7-6, in the series finale at Aces Ballpark.
Tacoma scored four runs in the first and tacked on two more in the second to take a quick 6-0 lead. But the Aces would battle back. Reno pushed across a run in the second, received a Cole Gillespie two-run homer in the third, then a Gillespie RBI single and Allen's 25th home run of the season gave the Aces their first lead of the night in the fifth. That one-run advantage would be all the Aces would need.
Matt Torra (11-6) earned the victory, his sixth-straight winning decision, despite surrendering six runs-five earned-over six innings of work. Torra walked one and struck out a season-high nine batters. Kasey Olenberger held Tacoma scoreless over 1.2 frames before Carlos Rosa finished the proceedings with a four-out save.
The loss fell to Tacoma starter Blake Beavan (2-2), who allowed seven earned runs on nine hits over six innings of work.
At the plate for Reno, Allen and Gillespie accounted for six of Reno's seven RBIs on the night. Doug Deeds extended his hitting streak to eight games with three hits out of the lead-off spot for the Aces.
The Aces now head to Las Vegas for this season's final chapter of the Silver State Diamond Challenge. In the opener, Reno sends RHP Bryan Augenstein (5-8, 6.77 ERA) to the hill to face-off against 51s RHP Shawn Hill (1-1, 3.86 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. PT from Cashman Field.
The Aces return home for the final homestand of the 2010 season on Monday, Aug. 30 as the club celebrates Fan Appreciation Week at Aces Ballpark. Tickets are available by calling the Reno Aces box office at (775) 334-7000 or by visiting RenoAces.com. The brand-new Freight House District, located just outside Aces Ballpark, is open seven days a week, on both game days and non-game days.
