Round Rock Express News Release

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Joe Mather was 3-for-3 with an RBI double in leading the Memphis Redbirds to a 3-1 victory over the Round Rock Express in Wednesday night's series opener at AutoZone Park. The Express (55-77) snapped a season-best, four-game road winning streak but have lost all four games this season at Memphis. The Redbirds (73-59) lead the season series 8-4.

Memphis scored two runs on four hits in the bottom of the third inning and never relinquished that lead. Amaury Cazana plated the first run on an RBI infield single, and Mark Hamilton plated Cazana with a two-out RBI single. In the fifth, Daniel Descalso walked to open the frame and later scored on Mather's two-out double to push the Redbirds lead to 3-0.

Round Rock's lone run came in the seventh inning when Edwin Maysonet doubled with one out and scored on German Duran's two-out, pinch-hit double. The Express managed only five hits on the night, two from Maysonet. Edwin Bellorin and starting pitcher Andy Van Hekken both had singles. Round Rock was 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position, stranding eight. The Express' one-through-six batters were 0-for-20 with four walks and seven strikeouts.

Memphis starter Lance Lynn (12-9) earned the win, flipping 6.0 scoreless innings on three hits and four walks with four strikeouts. Josh Kinney worked a scoreless ninth with a walk and two strikeouts for his 11th save.

Van Hekken (7-7) took the tough-luck loss; he allowed three runs on nine hits and three walks with six strikeouts over 6.0 innings. Chris Sampson and Casey Daigle each worked a one-hit, one-strikeout scoreless inning of relief.

Tyler Greene matched Mather with three hits and scored once. Hamilton was 2-for-4.

Round Rock and Memphis continue their five-game series Thursday with a 7:05 p.m. CDT first pitch at AutoZone Park. Right-hander Jordan Lyles (0-1, 5.94 ERA) gets the start for the Express, while right-hander Oneli Perez (2-6, 4.60 ERA) is scheduled to go for the Redbirds.
