Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

A seven-run second inning and an outstanding start by Josh Muecke lead the Colorado Springs Sky Sox over the Salt Lake Bees by the score of 7-3 on Wednesday night at Security Service Field in front of 4,607 fans.

Muecke (6-7) picked up the win after tossing 7.2 innings and giving up just three runs on five hits. He carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning and a one-hitter into eighth before giving up three runs in the frame and exiting to a standing ovation. He walked two on the night and struck out three as the Sox took game one of a five-game series.

All the offense the Sox would need came in the second inning as they scored seven runs on five hits while taking advantage of three costly Bees errors. In the inning, the Sky Sox sent 12 men to the plate and at one point six straight batters reached base and scored. Shortstop Chris Nelson had two singles in the inning and drove in three as the big hitter in the frame. All seven runs came against Bees starter Fernando Rodriguez (4-6) although just one of them was earned.

Game two of the series is set for 6:05 PM tomorrow night with the Sox sending out RH Samuel Deduno (3-1, 2.93) to face RH Amalio Diaz (4-5, 4.88).
