Memphis Redbirds News Release

MEMPHIS, TN - Memphis topped Round Rock 3-1 Wednesday night at AutoZone Park behind the strong pitching of Lance Lynn.

Lynn turned in six scoreless innings to earn his 12th win of the year and move into a tie for the second-most wins by a Redbirds pitcher in a single season with Sean Lowe, who won 12 games for the 'Birds in 1998. Lynn scattered three hits and walked four with four strikeouts to beat Round Rock for the third time in three starts this year. The former Ole Miss Rebel is 5-1 in his last six starts.

The Memphis offense pushed a pair of runs across in the third inning to take the lead. Amaury Cazana's infield single scored Tyler Greene from third base with two outs. Cazana then came around to score on Mark Hamilton's RBI-single. Joe Mather's RBI-double in the fifth gave the 'Birds a three-run advantage. Greene and Mather led the Redbirds with three hits each. Edwin Maysonet had two of Round Rock's five hits.

Express starter Andy Van Hekken took the loss allowing three runs on nine hits over six innings. Josh Kinney nailed down his 11th save of the year working a scoreless ninth. Jason Motte allowed one run on two hits with a walk and a strikeout on 23 pitches while recording two outs in the first game of his rehab assignment.

With the Redbirds win and Iowa's loss Wednesday night, Memphis moved to within 1.5 games of the front-running Cubs in the American North division.

Memphis and Round Rock play tomorrow night with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Oneli Perez gets the ball for the 'Birds against Express right-hander Jordan Lyles. For ticket information call 901.721.6000.
