Allen Americans News Release

ALLEN, Texas - The Allen Americans fell 6-1 to the Rapid City Rush tonight. The two clubs' first meeting put Allen's record at 23-9-2 (48 points), while Rapid City advanced to 23-9-1 (47 points).

The first period featured end-to-end play, and Rapid City's Brendan Cook lit the lamp first on a breakaway 7:45 minutes into the first period. The Americans could not capitalize on any scoring opportunities in the frame and headed into the locker room down 1-0.

The Rush notched two more tallies from Scott Wray and Rich Hansen in the second period before the Americans fired back. Nino Musitelli scored his ninth goal of the season on the power play with three minutes remaining in the frame, but Rapid City responded just two minutes later with a goal from Jamie VanderVeeken. The score sat at 4-1 after 40 minutes of play.

The Americans changed goalies to shake up things in the third. Charlie Effinger replaced Chris Whitley in net, but the Rush's leading scorer Les Reaney managed to beat Effinger twice in the final frame to bring the score to 6-1.

The game was only the third regulation loss the Americans have suffered at the Allen Event Center.

Earlier today, forward Mick Berge and defenseman Sean Perkins were placed on 14-day IR. Forward Tobias Whelan laced up his skates for the first time since the Dec. 26 North Texas Vintage Game Series win over the Brahmas. Defenseman Kurtis Dulle was also activated from IR today.

The Americans host the Wichita Thunder tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. at the Allen Event Center. The game will be broadcast live on Time Warner Cable's Metro Sports Channel 185 and can be accessed on Metro Sports On Demand Channel 634.
