Odessa Jackalopes News Release
(Corpus Christi, TX) - Jean Bourbeau's shorthanded goal with five seconds left in the third period propelled the Odessa Jackalopes to a 4-3 win over the Corpus Christi IceRays on Friday night at the American Bank Center in front of a crowd of 5,888. The goal gave Odessa their first and only lead of the hockey game in the closing seconds.
Bourbeau wristed a loose puck from the right circle after a faceoff left the two centermen for each team locked up in a battle for position.
The goal capped off a third period that began with Stephen Later scoring a power play goal at 12:16 on a wrist shot from the right point to make it 3-2, Rays. Dominic Leveille tied it up for Odessa with a power play goal, deflecting a shot from the point in the net at 15:22 to set up Bourbeau's game-winner.
Joel Martin made 36 saves for Odessa for his 14th win of the season. Odessa's record improves to 27-6-3 on the season and 5-0-0 against the IceRays this season. Four of the five games between Odessa and Corpus Christi have been decided by one goal.
The scoring started just 14 seconds into the game when Chad Costello gave Corpus Christi a 1-0 lead with a wrist shot while crossing the offensive zone. Odessa tied the game at 1-1 on a backhand, wrap-around goal from Jeff Pierce at 13:52. Both teams were tied after one period.
The teams traded goals again in the second period as Justin Quennevile deflected a shot from Later in the left circle to make 2-1, Rays. The Jacks knotted the game again on a 5-on-3 power play as Collin Circelli tipped home a centering feed from the right wing corner from Sebastien Thinel.
The Jackalopes visit the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees on Saturday night at Dodge Arena. Game time is set for 7:05 PM.
