
Bucks Snap Road Skid With 6-2 Romp

HIDALGO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League beat the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 6-2 Friday night at the Dodge Arena. With the win the Bucks snapped their five-game road winless streak and improve to 16-11-7 (39 points). Laredo remains two points behind Texas for third place but increased their lead over Rio to three points for fourth place in the Southern Conference.
Darryl Smith picked up three points (2-1=3) while Kevin Desfosses won his Bucks debut in net setting aside 38 of 40 shots. Laredo was outshot in the game 40-25.
The Bucks got a quick jump on the Killer Bees as Jay Holladay picked up his first goal of the season just 2:42 into the game. Holladay's goal came off of a slap shot from just outside of the slot.
The Bees (16-14-4) would tie the game at 1-1 with 6:03 left in the first period as Joel Irving hammered scored from the bottom hash mark off of a pass from Topher Scott. The strike was Irving's ninth of the season.
Laredo would re-take the lead less than two minutes later when Smith took a drop pass from Jeff Bes and hammered in a shot from the slot score his team-leading 15th goal of the season.
The Bucks were outshot 17-9 in the first period.
Rio would tie the game at 2-2 just 5:47 into the second period when Jesse Bennefield scored on a drop pass from Grant Goeckner-Zoeller. The goal was Bennefield's team-leading 19th of the season.
Smith would give the Bucks the lead again when he scored on a wrap around shot just 1:11 later. The tally was Smith's second of the game and team-leading 16th of the campaign.
The Bucks were outshot once again in the second period this time by a 13-6 mark. Laredo improve to 13-0-3 when leading after two periods this season.
Bes would make it 4-2 Laredo with 5:04 left in the third period when he tipped in a shot on the power-play to score his 12 of the season. Bes now moves into a tie with Dan Wildfong for 24th place in CHL history with 192 goals.
Mark O'Leary would bang in his own rebound just 42 seconds later to put the Bucks up 5-2. O'Leary played two seasons for the Killer Bees.
Curtis Billsten made it 6-2 when he scored an empty net goal with 2:50 left in the third period.
Andy Franck suffered the loss in net as he set aside 18 of 24 shots.
Laredo improves to 5-0-1 against Rio this season including 3-0 at the Dodge Arena.
