
Morissette leads the charge, Gorillas win

Amarillo, TX - Three unanswered goals in the final period of play helped the Amarillo Gorillas prevail over the Arizona Sundogs 5-4 Friday night.
Amarillo spotted Arizona the first goal of the tilt when forward Kyle Hood exploited a Gorillas turnover at the blue line for what is now a career-high ninth goal. Amarillo battled back with two goals of their own beginning with forward Stuart MacRae's backhand goal with less than 5 minutes to go in the period. Defenseman Erik Felde ripped his shot from the point with the man-advantage 2 minutes and 21 seconds later, scoring his second marker of the season. After one, Amarillo 2 Arizona 1.
After several scoring chances for both sides in the middle frame, Arizona forward Konrad Reeder was awarded a penalty shot with six seconds remaining in the period. Reeder converted on his opportunity, tying the game at 2 heading into the second intermission.
Despite surrendering the first marker of the first period, Amarillo stormed back with three unanswered goals. Forward Jake Morissette scored twice and Erik Felde notched his second power-play goal of the game giving the Gorillas the 5-3 lead with less than 8 minutes remaining in the contest. Arizona's All-Star defenseman Jon Landry tallied a late marker for Arizona with 30 seconds to go. Amarillo staved off the Sundogs' final assault, winning 5-4.
Jake Morissette's 4-point night earned him the game's first star...Stuart MacRae's first period goal was his 100th CHL career point...6 of defenseman Erik Felde's 7 points this season have come on home ice... Defenseman Shaun Arvai skated in his first game since 12/13/09 (missed 10 games) while forward Austin Sutter was placed on the 14-day injured reserve prior to the contest.
Amarillo follows up Friday's game tomorrow night (January 16th) at 7pm in the Amarillo Civic Center versus the Rapid City Rush. The first 250 fans through the doors will be given a Gorillas key chain (second edition). Doors open at 6pm. Call (806) 242-PUCK (7825) for show tickets.
