Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
LOVELAND, CO - The Colorado Eagles scored three consecutive goals to erase a 2-1 deficit and go on to win 4-3 over the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs Friday night at the Budweiser Events Center. A late Mudbugs comeback fell just short as Bossier-Shreveport's ten game road point streak came to an end.
Joe Ori and Shawn Limpright scored in the first period as the âBugs had a 2-1 lead until Colorado answered with the game's next three goals. Travis Claytonâs third period tally got the Mudbugs back within one before time ran out on the rally.
Colorado started the scoring early in this one as Alex Penner parked himself in front of the net and jammed in the game's first goal at 3:20. The Mudbugs tied it up exactly five minutes later as Joe Ori skated deep into the Eagles' zone and wrapped around the net before tucking the puck inside the post to make it 1-1. The âBugs then took a 2-1 lead on the powerplay as Brett Smith raced down left wing before feeding Shawn Limpright, who beat Mike Mole glove side at 16:14. With less than one minute left in the first, the Eagles answered with a powerplay goal of their own as Aaron Schneekloth tied the game at two.
Colorado bookended the second period with an early goal and a late goal to take a 4-2 lead into the third. Brett Lutes put the Eagles on top just 15 seconds into the middle frame when his long shot deflected off a Mudbug defender and found its way into the net. Bossier-Shreveport had a great chance to tie the game with a lengthy 5-on-3 powerplay, but couldn't convert. Then with only one minute remaining in the period, Ryan McLeod picked up the rebound of an Ed McGrane shot and put it into an open net to give Colorado the two-goal lead.
The âBugs outshot the Eagles 10-7 in the third period and cut the lead back to one at 12:19. Limpright drew in the defense and slid a pass to Clayton, who beat Mole through the five-hole to make it a 4-3 game for the Mudbugs.
John DeCaro stopped 33 shots, but dropped to 10-8-1 for the year with the loss. Mike Mole made 21 saves as the Eagles finished with a 37-24 shot advantage. The âBugs were 1 for 5 on the powerplay while the Eagles were 1 for 8.
The two teams will be right back at it tomorrow night at the BEC to finish off this weekend's back-to-back set with their second meeting of the year. Opening faceoff in once again set for 8:05 pm. The game will be broadcast live on News Radio 710 AM KEEL with pregame coverage starting at 7:45 pm and can also be seen live online on CHL TV.
