Club de Foot Montreal News Release
MONTREAL - Defenders Alistair Johnston and Kamal Miller, as well as midfielder Samuel Piette have been called up by the Canadian men's national team for Concacaf qualifying matches ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Johnston, Miller and Piette will begin by facing their teammate Romell Quioto and Honduras at the Estadio Olímpico Metropolitano in San Pedro Sula on January 27, at 8:05pm. The Canadians will then return home to host the United States on January 30 at Tim Hortons Field, in Hamilton at 3:05pm before returning to Central America on February 2 to play El Salvador at the Estadio Cuscatlán in San Salvador at 9pm.
With 16 points (4-0-4) and six games remaining, Canada heads into this three-game window undefeated and atop the eight-group octagonal with the United States and Mexico trailing on 15 and 14 points respectively.
Miller logged a full 180 minutes for his country last November as Canada earned two crucial home victories against Costa Rica (1-0) and a historic result again Mexico (2-1) in frigid Edmonton conditions at Commonwealth Stadium. Johnston, meanwhile, played 108 total minutes, coming on as a second-half substitute against Costa Rica before playing the full 90 against Mexico. Miller and Johnston have been capped 18 times each for the senior national team since making their respective debuts on June 23, 2019, and March 25, 2021.
