Alberta Boys Lift BWK to Win in Red Deer

Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Red Deer, AB - The Brandon Wheat Kings put together one of their best efforts of the season on Friday night, handing the Red Deer Rebels a 4-1 loss at the Peavy Mart Centrium.
Ridly Grieg (1G-3A) and Nate Danielson (4A) each recorded four points, while Rylen Roersma scored twice on route to the victory.
"I like how we played tonight," said Head Coach Don MacGillivray. "We played smart, did a really good job keeping pucks moving, got some timely goals and did a lot of good things."
Brandon was outshot 10-8 in the first period, but 16-year-old Carson Bjarnason stopped them all, helping the Wheat Kings to a 1-0 lead at the first intermission. Bjarnason finished the night with 25 saves for his fifth win of the season.
"Barney played real well," added MacGillvray. "He was fighting for pucks thru traffic and making saves looked easy. We did a good job to not give up a ton of grade A chances, but they had some zone time, and he came up big when we needed him."
The win gives Brandon points in eight straight games, and a record of 8-2-2-1 since December 1st.
"We had some great efforts up and down the lineup," said MacGillivray. "I thought this was a whole team effort. Froggy (Jacob Hoffrogge) and Hammer (Logen Hammett) played one of their best games tonight, Barney (Bjarnason) was sharp, Trae (Johnson) was contributing too. I really liked our team game and our bench tonight."
It will be a quick turnaround on Saturday afternoon as the game vs the Edmonton Oil Kings has been moved to 3:00 PM Manitoba time, to make room for the NHL's rescheduled game between the Oilers and Ottawa Senators.
"We managed the ice time as a staff pretty well tonight," added MacGillivray. "We have to get out of here quick and get our rest tonight. Edmonton is a good team and we're going to have to play similar style game to be successful."
You can catch the battle of the kings on Bounce 96.1 and the iHeartRadio app starting with the Drummonds Farm Services pre-game show at 2:45.
