Utah Grizzlies News Release
Anchorage, Alaska -The ECHL leading Alaska Aces (43-21-2-1) defeated the Utah Grizzlies (32-28-4-3) 4-0 Friday night in Anchorage.
Alaska built a 1-0 lead at the first intermission, scoring a power-play goal on their first chance of the game. Andrew Engelage stopped nine of ten shots to keep the contest in Utah's grasp at the first intermission.
The Aces built a 4-0 second intermission lead by scoring on their first two shots 57 seconds apart in the first two minutes and then added a third goal by Wes Goldie on a wrap around at 8:17 to complete the scoring.
Utah appeared to have three sure goals in the game but was denied by Alaska goaltender Gerald Coleman on all three chances. Coleman earned his league-leading 28th win of the year. Tyler Sims replaced Andrew Engelage after the third goal and stopped 14 of 15 to finish the contest.
The Grizzlies were without injured scoring forwards Tom May, Paul McIlveen and Chris Donovan who are not on the trip. All three were hurt Wednesday night versus Las Vegas.
Utah and Alaska meet again Saturday at 9:15 p.m. and Sunday at 4:05 p.m. in Anchorage.
The Grizzlies return to Maverik Center to complete the regular season Friday, April 1 and Saturday, April 2 for Fan Appreciation Weekend. Face-off both nights is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
