Jackals Put Away By K-Wings In Third Period, 6-1

Elmira, N.Y. - The Kalamazoo Wings (37-23-2-6) scored four times in the third period on Saturday night at First Arena to pull away from the Elmira Jackals (33-26-6-3) and earn a 6-1 win. A crowd of 3,792 fans saw the game, serving as Elmira's league-leading 12th sellout of the 2010-2011 season.

Kory Karlander's shot from the right circle deflected into the net off of a Jackals defenseman at 6:55 of the first period to give Kalamazoo a 1-0 lead.

Andrew Fournier poked in a puck at the top of the crease off a rebound from a shot by Trent Daavettila to give the K-Wings the 2-0 advantage at 15:13 of the opening frame.

A.J. Perry took a feed in the slot and stickhandled toward the net to fire a puck past K-Wings goaltender Ryan Nie to bring the Jackals to within a goal, 2-1, at 12:07 of the second.

Fournier snuck in front from behind the net and wrapped a puck past Jackals goaltender Marco Cousineau 35 seconds into the K-Wings' first power play to make it 3-1 at 5:02 of the third period.

Brady Leisenring snapped in a shot from the slot through Cousineau's pads at 8:24 of the third to put Kalamazoo up 4-1.

Daavettila pushed in a puck from the doorstep on a feed by Lloyd toextend Kalamazoo's lead to 5-1 at 16:06.

Justin Taylor wristed a puck past Cousineau on the power play to close out the scoring, 6-1, at 17:35 of the final frame.

Cousineau dropped to 21-15-4-1 with 28 saves on 34 shots. Nie made 31 saves on 32 shots as he pulled into a tie with Alaska's Gerald Coleman for the league lead with 28 wins. His record is now 28-15-2-3.

The Jackals remain in seventh place in the Eastern Conference standings with the loss.
