ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (36-29-4) had a chance to clinch a playoff spot, but fell short getting blanked 5-0 by the Wheeling Nailers (36-29-4) on Saturday night at Germain Arena.
The Blades fell behind early, coughing up a pair of first period goals. Kyle Bushee opened the scoring with a power play marker at 8:07 with a shot from the left point that sailed past Everblades rookie goaltender Troy Passingham.
At 14:25 the Nailers grabbed a two-goal lead when Mikael Bedard chipped home his 17th goal of the season. After Wheeling worked the puck to left side of the net, a rebound bounced free to Bedard who was able to flip a back-hand into the net.
Wheeling duplicated their first period feat in the second period, adding two more tallies. Less than three-minutes into the period Joey Haddad notched his team-leading 20th goal of the season picking up a rebound at the top of the crease and lifting it past a sprawling Passingham.
The Nailers increased their lead to four and chased Passingham from the game at the 13:39 mark when Chris Kushneriuk broke in down the left wing before cutting to the front of the net an slipping a shot inside the left post.
Mike Zacharias came in to relieve Passingham and allowed a third period power play goal to Tyler Murovich at the 7:54 mark to close out the scoring.
In goal Passingham took the loss in his professional debut allowing four goals on 18 shots in the 33:39 played. Zacharias closed out the game stopping 20 of 22 shots in the game's final 26:21
Wheeling goaltender Peter Delmas (14-6-1) recorded his third shutout of the season after stopping all 18 shots he faced..
On the power play, the Everblades closed out the game 0-of-4, while Wheeling closed out the night 2-of-9 on the man-advantage.
