Lake Superior State University defender Matt Cowie joins Victoria

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today that they have signed defenseman Matt Cowie for the 2010-11 season.

The Nepean, ON native will begin his professional career with the Salmon Kings following a four-year career (2007-08 thru 2010-11) in the NCAA with Lake Superior State University. During his time at school with the Lakers, Cowie accumulated 42 points (9g-33a) and 54 penalty minutes in 153 career games.

The 24-year-old's best offensive season as a Laker came this year where he scored 17 points (4g-13a) to go along with eight minutes in penalties in 39 appearances.

Tickets for the first two home dates in the opening round of the 2011 Kelly Cup Playoffs can be purchased starting this Monday at 10:00 a.m. Fans can purchase playoff tickets in person at the Select Your Tickets Box Office, online at www.selectyourtickets.com, or by phone at 250-220-7777. Victoria's playoff opponent is yet to be determined, with the full first round scheduled to be announced at a later date. Purchased tickets will be available for pickup once all playoff details are confirmed. The Western Conference quarterfinals series is a 2-3 format with the higher seed choosing the first two or final three games at home.

The Salmon Kings will continue their four game road trip tonight at 7:30 p.m. against the Thunder at the Stockton Arena. The final home series of the 2010-11 regular season begins next week on Wednesday, March 30th against the Alaska Aces. On Friday April 1st the Salmon Kings are hosting Fan Appreciation Night.
